Celebrating First-Generation Students, Faculty & Staff Nov. 7-11

Dear Texas A&M Community,

A weeklong celebration at Texas A&M University next week, Nov. 7-11, will celebrate the determined spirit of students, faculty and staff who are, or were, the first in their families to earn a four-year degree. First-generation students, whose parents or legal guardians have not earned a bachelor’s degree, make up about 24 percent of our undergraduate population.

With support from the Routh First-Generation Center in the Office for Student Success, and the Office of the President, among others, First-Generation Week will showcase the many different perspectives of these special students, faculty and staff. Each day’s theme will feature mini-profiles from students and employees along with events around the university. We’re excited to recognize the significance that four-year degrees make in the lives of our students. First-Generation Week events around the university include:

First-Generation Poster Gallery Walk
Monday, Nov. 7 – Friday, Nov. 11
MSC 12th Man Hallway - closest to the south side doors near the 12th Man statue
Posters will be displayed from Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. through 11 p.m. and Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

College Day Celebrations
Tuesday, Nov. 8

Supporting First-Gen Students in the Classroom & Beyond
