Following discussions with Faculty Senate Speaker Dale Rice, the university has worked with the Office of General Counsel in the System to allow you to be notified when a student reports testing positive for COVID-19. In partnership with the Division of Information Technology, you will receive an email like the one attached.
Please be aware that you may not share the name of the student. In small classes or courses where the positive student may be the only student online, disclosing the positive test to the class would allow classmates to ascertain the identity of the student. I do suggest you encourage your students to test and self-monitor. This will allow faculty to follow their conscience as they attempt to safeguard the wellbeing of their students.
