Faculty Feedback Requested on Course Affordability Assessment

Published on Thu 04/13/23
Dear Faculty,

In an effort to reduce the cost of education to students, President Banks assembled a task force to assess the potential for expanding the use of open educational resources (OER). This committee of faculty and administrators worked during the fall and spring semesters to survey the needs and opportunities in our courses as well as to make some recommendations for action. Their report is titled Improving Texas A&M University Course Affordability.

I welcome your feedback on the committee’s report and your suggestions for implementing OER to better support our students. Please review the report and provide your feedback by 5 p.m. on April 24.

To capitalize on this momentum and the committee’s recommendations, we anticipate issuing a request for brief proposals (RFP) by May 1 with a May 22 due date. Selections are anticipated in early summer, allowing faculty time to plan their activities during the coming year.  Click here to participate in the upcoming RFP for the OER program.

As you know, the increasing cost of commercial textbooks is a significant challenge for student success at our university, and I appreciate your help in finding innovative and effective means of reducing those costs. Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Sincerely,

Alan Sams
Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
