Update on Fall 2020 Commencement Ceremonies
Published on Thu 11/19/20
Texas A&M University is planning for 15 in-person commencement ceremonies for fall 2020 graduates at Reed Arena in College Station. Please visit
graduation.tamu.edu
for a complete schedule of events.
Please note that in order to address a scheduling conflict, ceremonies for the College of Liberal Arts are being moved from Saturday, December 19
th
to Wednesday, December 9
th
.
To accommodate physical distancing in the arena, each degree candidate will be issued six tickets to share with families and friends. A ticket must be presented at the door for admission into the arena. Tickets will be distributed electronically in early December through the 12
th
Man Foundation.
Degree candidates wishing to defer their participation to a February or March ceremony at Kyle Field must email the
Office of the Registrar
by Monday, November 30
th
.
Because of COVID-19, the university is taking a number of precautions for the safety of those in attendance:
The
face covering policy
will be enforced. All individuals attending must wear a face covering upon entry and throughout the duration of the entire ceremony.
Seating areas for attendees will be clearly marked in order to maintain safe physical distancing. Guests may sit together in groups of no more than six. Ushers will be available to assist with seating.
Increased fresh air circulation will provide four air exchanges per hour.
Even with these precautions in place, we strongly encourage those
individuals with a higher risk
for severe illness from COVID-19 to watch the commencement ceremonies live on
KAMU
.
Additionally, the following changes have been made to the commencement ceremony to enhance the safety of participants:
In lieu of a processional, degree candidates will report to the north entrance of Reed Arena, be given a seating assignment, and proceed to the assigned seat on the arena floor for physically-distanced seating.
The ceremony will feature a blend of in-person and video elements with a limited stage party prior to the roll call of graduates.
Graduates will cross the stage when their name is called and then exit the arena to an area outside the building for a photograph.
Family and friends of the graduate should exit after their student walks the stage in order to provide physical distancing for those leaving the arena.
Graduates may rejoin their guests outside the arena after their photograph has been taken.
Diplomas will be mailed to graduates to the address collected on the application for degree.
