Syllabus COVID-19 Safety Reminder

August 18th, 2020, 9:45 p.m. CDT

Dear Faculty,

Welcome to the Fall 2020 semester. I want to acknowledge and thank you for all the extra time you have spent preparing your courses. Without a doubt, this week will have its challenges, so I appreciate your patience and persistence as we move forward to deliver the best education we can to our students.

As you know, the Faculty Senate passed a temporary addition to the minimum syllabus requirements addressing COVID-19 safety. This week, when you first meet with your students and review your syllabus, I would appreciate it if you would give particular attention to the campus safety measures as well as the section on illness and quarantine. We know they’ve heard it before, but at this point, we need to be candid with our students and remind them that their assistance is absolutely essential to keeping this campus operational.

In order to enhance the safety of our classrooms and so that students can wear face coverings continuously, we are notifying them that the consumption of food and drink will not be permitted in all teaching classrooms this fall. Students may still carry food and drink with them to consume outside the classroom. This will be new information to them, so for those who are teaching in a face-to-face setting, you may want to mention this when you teach. We will encourage hydration prior to coming into the classroom.

If you missed the email earlier this week, please review the information about the new explanatory absence form

Thank you for all you are doing to keep us moving forward.

Sincerely,
Carol A. Fierke
Provost and Executive Vice President
