I am pleased to announce that Dr. R. Duane Ireland will continue to lead Mays Business School as interim dean. He has been acting dean of the school since Jan. 1, 2021.
At Mays, Dr. Ireland is associate dean for research and scholarship; he served previously as executive associate dean for five years. He holds the Benton Cocanougher Chair in Business.
He is a University Distinguished Professor at Texas A&M whose research focuses on the intersection between entrepreneurship and innovation, strategic entrepreneurship, and effective strategic leadership practices. He received a university-level Association of Former Students’ Distinguished Achievement Award in Research.
Dr. Ireland is past president of the Academy of Management and past editor of the Academy of Management Journal. He received his Ph.D. from Texas Tech University, where he is a Distinguished Alumnus of the Rawls College of Business.
We are grateful to Dr. Ireland for his willingness to serve Mays Business School as interim dean. He replaces Dr. Eli Jones who, after serving as dean for six years, is returning to faculty in the Department of Marketing as a full professor and endowed chair. Under Dr. Jones’ leadership, the school has increased its four-year graduation rate from 63% to 68%. Underrepresented minority enrollment increased from 18.7% in fall 2019 to 20% in fall 2020. Many of its programs have garnered awards, including 2022 rankings in U.S. News & World Report for the Full-Time MBA program (16th among public programs and 38th overall) and the Professional MBA program (23rd among public programs, 39th overall).
