Interim Leader Appointed for Texas A&M Engineering Programs

Dr. John E. Hurtado
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. John E. Hurtado as interim vice chancellor and dean of engineering and interim agency director of the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES). He will assume the duties of this position June 1.

Dr. Hurtado will oversee administration of the college and agency while a national search is conducted to permanently fill the positions. 

A professor of aerospace engineering, as well as the deputy director and chief technology officer for the Bush Combat Development Complex, Dr. Hurtado specializes in theoretical mechanics, cooperative games, and dynamics and controls. 

He earned his bachelor of science degree in aerospace engineering from San Diego State University. He received both a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in aerospace engineering from Texas A&M University.

Please join us in thanking Dr. Hurtado for his willingness to serve Texas A&M University and the A&M System in these roles. He replaces outgoing Vice Chancellor of Engineering and National Laboratories, Dean of the College of Engineering, and Agency Director of TEES, Dr. M. Katherine Banks, who was named to these positions in 2011 and was appointed in March as the 26th president of Texas A&M University beginning on June 1.
