Michael T. Stephenson Leaving Texas A&M

Dr. Michael T. Stephenson ’93 is leaving his position as Vice Provost for Academic Affairs & Strategic Initiatives at Texas A&M University to become Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs at Sam Houston State University. The appointment is effective July 1.

During Dr. Stephenson’s 19 years of service at Texas A&M, he was a Professor of Communication and held various administrative positions. He has been in the Office of the Provost at Texas A&M since 2013 and was Associate Dean for Undergraduate Interdisciplinary, and International Programs in the College of Liberal Arts, and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Communication.

As Vice Provost, he has overseen the university’s student success initiative, academic program reviews, institutional effectiveness, and SACSCOC accreditation. In addition to serving as co-chair of the strategic plan, he supervises the Provost’s office for communication, the Aggie Honor System Office, the Office for Academic Innovation, the Office for Student Success, the Office for Institutional Effectiveness, and Undergraduate Studies.

His most cherished accomplishment is his work with first-generation college students and in running a pilot program for expanding Regents’ Scholars learning communities. 

We thank him for his years of dedicated service to Texas A&M and wish him well in his new endeavor. Details regarding a new vice provost will be forthcoming.
