Dear Texas A&M Community,

I am pleased to announce that Interim Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Interdisciplinary Initiatives Dr. Patrick Louchouarn has been appointed to simultaneously serve as Acting Dean of Faculties. Dr. Louchouarn will be responsible for numerous duties involving faculty, including the review and management of faculty hiring, awards, and other faculty matters for the Provost, overseeing Dean of Faculties endeavors, interdisciplinary initiatives, and the international portfolio.

In serving in this additional role, Dr. Louchouarn will continue to showcase his unwavering commitment to faculty and lead the promotion and tenure process at this crucial time in the academic year. He is fortunate to serve faculty alongside a team of talented and capable professionals in the Office of the Dean of Faculties.

Dr. Louchouarn brings a wealth of administrative experience to these joint appointments. He has served as Chief Academic Officer for Texas A&M University at Galveston and Associate Provost at Texas A&M since 2012. He previously served as department head of the Department of Marine Sciences at Galveston from 2010 to 2013 and associate director of the Master’s Program in Public Administration at Columbia University from 2003 to 2006.

In 2020, he was named a Regents Professor. He served as convener of the Council of Deans, co-led one of the visioning task forces that guided the recent strategic plan, and contributed to the executive committee on student success initiatives. He is a member of several boards in Galveston that focus on economic development and emerging technology.

Dr. Louchouarn earned his undergraduate degree in marine biology at McGill University in 1989, and master’s and doctorate degrees in environmental sciences from University of Québec in Montréal in 1992 and 1997, respectively.

As Acting Dean of Faculties, Dr. Louchouarn will serve the position formerly held by Dr. Blanca Lupiani. I thank Dr. Lupiani for her stewardship of this important position and welcome Dr. Louchouarn to this new role.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Louchouarn on his dual appointment as Interim Vice Provost and Acting Dean of Faculties.
