Texas A&M University at Qatar dean reappointed

Dear Texas A&M Community:

I am pleased to announce that I am reappointing Dr. César Octavio Malavé as dean and chief operating officer of Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ). The reappointment is for five years, effective July 1, 2020, through Aug. 31, 2025.

Dr. Malavé is a professor in Texas A&M University’s Wm. Michael Barnes ’64 Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering in the College of Engineering, which he joined as an assistant professor in 1987. Over the past two decades, he has held several administrative positions, including as assistant dean and associate dean of the College of Engineering, and as head of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. He has been involved with TAMUQ since 2004, and was appointed its dean in July 2016.

As dean, Dr. Malavé will continue to provide strategic, scholarly, and financial leadership of TAMUQ, including developing and overseeing undergraduate, graduate, and professional education programs; hiring, mentoring, and evaluating for promotion all faculty; research productivity; and staff, budget, and space.

Dr. Malavé has a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and a master’s degree in operations research, both from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He earned his Ph.D. in industrial engineering from the University of South Florida. His research interests include optimization, engineering education, and curricula design for engineering students. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas and a fellow of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers.
