Biography
Dr. Jerry R. Strawser is the Interim Provost and Executive Vice President of Texas A&M University and a professor and KPMG Chair in the James Benjamin Department of Accounting at Mays Business School. He began his current appointment as interim provost on Sept. 1, 2026.
A former student and longtime faculty member and administrator, Dr. Strawser has served Texas A&M in academic and university leadership roles for more than 25 years. Prior to his appointment as interim provost, he served as associate dean for graduate programs at Mays Business School from 2022-26. During his tenure, Mays launched the Bahr ’91 Engineering MBA and Flex Online MBA programs and achieved improved national rankings for its Full-Time MBA program.
Dr. Strawser previously served as executive vice president for finance and operations and chief financial officer for Texas A&M from 2014-21, overseeing the university’s finance and operations functions. He also previously served as interim executive vice president and provost from 2007-08.
He served as dean of Mays Business School from 2001-07 and again from 2008-14. During his tenure as dean, he helped secure more than $149 million in commitments supporting faculty, students and academic programs, including funding for endowed chairs, professorships, faculty fellowships, graduate fellowships and undergraduate scholarships. Mays also earned national recognition among the top 10 public institutions for the quality of its undergraduate programs, MBA programs and faculty scholarship.
Before joining Texas A&M, Dr. Strawser served as interim dean of the C.T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston, where he was the Arthur Andersen & Co. Alumni Professor of Accounting. As interim dean, he helped secure more than $45 million in philanthropic support for the college, including a $40 million gift to name the college for Charles T. “Ted” Bauer. He also previously served on the faculty at Louisiana State University.
An accomplished accounting scholar, Dr. Strawser has co-authored three textbooks and more than 60 journal articles and has presented more than 30 papers at national academic conferences. His professional experience also includes public accounting work with two international accounting firms and the development and delivery of executive education programs for numerous major organizations.
Dr. Strawser is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Texas. He earned his BBA (1983), M.S. (1984) and Ph.D. (1985) in accounting from Texas A&M University.
