Howdy!

Welcome to the Texas A&M University Division of Academic Affairs and the Office of the Provost. I have spent 30 rewarding years as a faculty member and administrator here, teaching students, conducting research and helping faculty. My wife and I have raised our family in the Brazos Valley, and we have proudly celebrated them earning their Texas A&M diplomas. This university is embedded in my heart, and in my family, and I am honored to serve our Fightin’ Texas Aggie students, faculty and staff as provost, executive vice president for academic affairs and chief academic officer.

Texas A&M University’s reputation as a preeminent institution of higher learning and our standing as the state’s only land-, sea- and space-grant university allows us to offer transformative educational opportunities with globally significant impacts bolstered by the quality of our students and the dedication of our faculty and staff.

This is a momentous time to serve as provost. I am excited about empowering and nurturing Aggies to succeed in experiential, transformational education and discovery as we prepare students to meet the needs of a complex world. My office is energetically retooling to reshape Academic Affairs to better facilitate relevant, world-class academic content, boost retention and graduation rates, enhance academic advising and support teaching excellence in every aspect of the Aggie student experience.

From undergraduate education to our graduate and professional programs, we are enhancing our focus on student success, operational efficiency, affordability of courses/textbooks and the individual needs and priorities of each student we are entrusted to educate.

Thank you for choosing Texas A&M, and I look forward to seeing you around campus and saying howdy.

Alan
