Dr. Blanca Lupiani joined Faculty Affairs in June 2025. She is a professor in the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology in the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences and has most recently served as Interim Associate Dean for Research in the College of Nursing since June 2024.

In her role as Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, Dr. Lupiani is committed to collaboratively strengthening the processes that support faculty recruitment, development, success, recognition, and fostering an environment where all faculty can thrive.

Dr. Lupiani joined Texas A&M University in 2002 as an assistant professor, was promoted to associate professor with tenure in 2008, and to full professor in 2012. From 2011 to 2021, Dr. Lupiani served in several key leadership roles in the Office of the Dean of Faculties, including as Dean of Faculties and Associate Provost from 2019 to 2021.

After earning her bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain, Dr. Lupiani completed her PhD as a Fulbright Postgraduate Scholar at the University of Maryland, College Park. She later conducted postdoctoral research at the Agricultural Research Service in Beltsville, Maryland and East Lansing, Michigan; and at Michigan State University.

A distinguished researcher, Dr. Lupiani focuses on the molecular mechanisms of viral pathogenesis. Her scholarly work includes more than 80 peer-reviewed publications, eight invited chapters and reviews, and six patents. Dr. Lupiani's research has been funded by federal and state agencies as well as private foundations and contributed to the development of a commercial vaccine to control lymphomas in chickens. She currently serves on the editorial boards of Avian Diseases and Vaccines and regularly reviews for numerous national and international journals and funding agencies.

Throughout her career, Dr. Lupiani has received numerous accolades, including recognition as Dean of Faculties and Associate Provost Emerita, the ACE Women’s Progress Award in Administration, and the Outstanding Scientific Achievement Award from the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. She is also a graduate of the Governor’s Executive Leadership Program and has served as both an ADVANCE Administrative Fellow and a Fellow of the SEC Academic Leadership Development Program.
